Beaufort Gyre 2007Expedition in the Canada Basin of the Arctic Ocean on the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent in August 2007. As part of an International polar year project, Mary-Louise Timmermans (WHOI) and I instrumented the deepest part of the BGEP moorings. You can also check out the daily dispatches I wrote while at sea on the BGEP website. Some results from the Canada Basin are on my research pages.

KESS 2005 and 2006As part of the Kuroshio Extension System Study (KESS), several moorings were deploted in off the coast of Japan from 2004 to 2006. I helped turn around (recover and re-deploy) the moorings in June 2005, and with the final recovery in June 2006. Both times we left from and came back to Yokohama, Japan. Pictures of Japan (after the 2006 cruise) are here. More on the KESS project and results on my research pages.

Kyushu 2002In April 2002, Andrey Shcherbina, Benjamin Hodges, Yueng Lenn, and Joe Martin joined me on a cruise to investigate the trapping of internal waves by the Kuroshio. We met the R/V Melville in Majuro (Marshall Islands, see picture on the right), then went on a 10-day transit to the Japanese waters, worked for 3 days, and came back to port in Osaka. Needeless to say, it was a great trip. |

HOME (2001 and 2002)During my graduate studies, I participated to a series of cruises on R/P FLIP as part of the Hawaiian Ocean Mixing Experiement. We spent 40 days out 450 km SW of Oahu for the Farfield program in 2001, and another 6-week in the Kauai Channel the following year (Nearfield). |
